About the Centre

The Blackburn Buddhist Centre (FWBO Eastlancs) is part of the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order (FWBO), a worldwide movement founded by Sangharakshita that aims to make Buddhist teachings and practices available in a form appropriate to the modern world.

Maitri House - A Centre for the practice of Loving Kindness

The Blackburn Centre is established to make available the teachings of Buddhism, and to invite people to join us in the practice of an ethical life based on compassion. We lay particular emphasis on the practice of loving kindness as the principle means whereby we transform ourselves and our world. We believe that learning to live a truly compassionate life is the only way to solve the world’s problems. You don’t have to be a Buddhist, or indeed to have any religious convictions, to learn how to live more mindfully and compassionately.
