News posted 8th April 2010 and modified 23rd May, 2010.
As of the 7th of April, 2010 The Western Buddhist Order is now called The Triratna Buddhist Order. On Buddha Day 28th May, 2010 The FWBO will become the Triratna Buddhist Community.
This change came about because we have a large number of Indian Order Members and the Order in India had a different name in Marathi which did not translate in other Indian languages and they also wanted unity with the rest of the Order throughout the world. Additionally we now have centres in countries which are not "Western", e.g. Singapore. The new name was chosed by Urgyen Sangharakshita, the founder of the F/WBO and the date is significant as it is 42 years since the Order was founded on the 7th April, 1968.
We shall continue to teach Buddhism with a Western approach.
